I am from the Ann Arbor, MI area, and currently practice with The Steadman Clinic in Vail, Colorado. After I was fellowship trained in Minimally Invasive Adult Spinal Surgery at Duke University, Durham, NC, we moved to Denver, CO. After 7 years in Denver, I moved up to Vail, CO to work with the world renowned surgeons at The Steadman Clinic. I brought my robotic , endoscopic and minimally invasive techniques to a state where MOST procedures are still performed with traditional open techniques from the 1990s. My team uses minimally-invasive, state-of-the-art, techniques to minimize the size of the surgical incision and damage to surrounding muscle, which accelerates the recovery process. These techniques can be used to treat a number of conditions such as Disc Herniations, Degenerative Scoliosis, as well as Cervical and Lumbar Degenerative Arthritis.
Additionally, I routinely perform revision neck and lower back surgeries with minimally invasive techniques to help patients achieve pain relief and improve function even when other surgeons say, “There is nothing more that can be done.” I am actively involved in teaching other surgeons these techniques nationally.
I was the 1st Orthopaedic Spine Surgeon in the state of Colorado to use the Globus ExcelsiusGPS surgical robot in spine surgery. We are now performing the same minimally invasive spine procedures as leading academic institutes around the world including Johns Hopkins, Duke and NYU. I encourage anyone who is considering spinal surgery to get a second opinion and see the difference in how your procedure can be performed.
As a Peer Reviewer for the Global Spine Journal –AOSpine: Thieme Medical Publishers, I review the medical literature of spine surgeons throughout the world to help improve the quality of information that is made available to our community. In an effort to progress the field of minimally invasive spine surgery, I am a Consulting/Design Surgeon for Arthrex, Consulting Surgeon for Acuity Surgical, Education/Consulting Surgeon for Globus Medical, and an Education/Research Surgeon for Medtronic.
To help decrease the cost of spinal surgery and improve healthcare efficiency, I serve as a Supply Chain Physician Adviser for Healthtrust PG. I have also Co-Founded the Anterior Spine Institute for Research and Education, ASPIRE 501c3, as a way to improve the quality, education, and understanding of anterior spinal surgery. I also am a guest lecturer at Denver University Business School on topics of supply chain and marketing.
I was lucky enough to marry my college sweetheart, and we enjoy scuba diving, music and spending time with our rescue dogs, Hazel and Greta.
