Minimally Invasive Robotic Spine Surgery

With ExcelsiusGPS®

Website New robot.jpg

Dr. Michael Gallizzi is the 1st Orthopedic Spinal Surgeon in the state of Colorado certified to perform spinal procedures with this innovative technology. He is also the 1st spinal surgeon in Colorado to perform over 100 robotic spine cases. He was the 1st in the state to use this technology for single position lateral spinal surgery.

In addition to having the most robotic spine surgery experience in the state, his team was 5th in the world to utilize the Globus Excelsius 3D imaging system which seamlessly registers the patient’s anatomy to the robotic spinal system.

This allows for advanced planning and intraoperative assistance to facilitate minimally invasive spinal hardware placement. My team performs surgery at Vail Health and Vail Valley Surgery Center

ExcelsiusGPS® is designed to improve accuracy and optimize patient care by using robotics and navigation, much like a GPS in your car.

How Does ExcelsiusGPS® Work?

On the day of surgery, medical images are taken and imported into ExcelsiusGPS®. I use these images to create a patient specific plan based on your anatomy. This plan optimizes the size and placement of implants customized to your body. In surgery, the rigid robotic arm targets the planned area of surgery, similar to a planned route on a your cars GPS. I follow this route to accurately place the implants using instruments.

Throughout the procedure, the surgical instruments and implants are continuously displayed on the screen for the me and my staff to monitor. This display allows the us to view live feedback during your procedure for more precise implant placement.
